In an attempt to control the run-off from neighboring tilled fields we have been using catch basins to slow down the run-off to trap some of the soil and also channel the water into waterways.

Below is one example of a catch basin we made in 1999.

 1999 catch basin.

First the area had to be cleaned out of excess soil that has filled in the waterway area.

The catch basin is approximately 2.5 feet deeper than the waterway it leads to.

The basin is approximately 80 feet long which guides the run-off into the waterway to prevent gullies from starting along side the waterway.

This is what occurs when waterways fill in with soil and water is allowed to run along side the water way.
