In an attempt to control the run-off from neighboring tilled fields we have been using catch basins to slow down the run-off to trap some of the soil and also channel the water into waterways.
Below is one example of a catch basin we made in 1999.

First the area had to be cleaned out of excess soil that has filled in the waterway area. |

The catch basin is approximately 2.5 feet deeper than the waterway it leads to. The basin is approximately 80 feet long which guides the run-off into the waterway to prevent gullies from starting along side the waterway. |
