After Wilma graduated from high school in 1941, she worked in Fort Crook, Nebraska, for the war effort during WWII.
While at Fort Crook, an Italian prisoner of war hand drew a picture of Wilma, which the family still has today.

KENNETH J. WALTERS
Military funeral rites for Kenneth James Walters, 40, of Botna, were held on
Sunday afternoon, January 14, 1968, at 2:30 at the Manning Methodist Church,
with the Rev. Andrew Stewart-Morris officiating. Burial was in Manning Cemetery
with military ceremonies by the Manning Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts.
Pallbearers were members of the posts.
Walters was killed on Thursday evening, January 11, in a one-car crash four miles east of Irwin.
Son of Earl Alfred and Marie (Norgaard) Walters, he was born February 8, 1927, near Marne. As an infant he moved to a farm near Walnut, then to Jacksonville. He attended school in Harlan and graduated in 1945. He was an overseas veteran of World War II. He was married, to Wilma Kintz on May 31, 1948, at Harlan, and the couple made their home in Botna. Mr. Walters was employed in county road maintenance and also worked in his father's general store in Botna.
His mother died on January 28, 1959. In addition, he was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: Vickie, Steven, David, Tommy, and Larry, at home; his father and step-mother; also two sisters, Mrs. Helen Zekan, Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Nadine Hansen, Audubon.

CARD OF THANKS
We wish to thank all our many friends, neighbors, and
relatives for food, memorials, flowers and cards we received during our recent
bereavement. Also our special thanks to Rev. Andrew Stewart-Morris, the drill
teams of V.F.W. and Legion, the circle for the lunch and to Craig Ruhde and
Beverly Mitchell for the music. It was so very nice of everyone and very deeply appreciated.
