Warren Frank Wulf

Warren Frank Wulf, 80, of Manning, Iowa, formerly of Westside, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at United Church in Westside. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Manning Cemetery, with military rites. Arrangements are under the direction of Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Warren Frank Wulf, the son of Frank Theodore and Lena Christine (Lamp) Wulf, was born November 25, 1928, on a farm in Hayes Township, southwest of Westside. He started his schooling in Hayes No. 9, near his home and graduated from Westside High School in 1948. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he was stationed in Korea. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Westside.

He took schooling in telegraphy and worked as a station agent for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He then worked as an inspector for the Department of Transportation, living in Des Moines and Sioux City. He retired in the late 1980s and moved to Denison, Iowa. When his health began to fail, he lived with his sister in Westside. In 2005, he became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sioux City, where he served as president. He also was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed traveling, collecting coins and early in his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was crowned king at the Schuetzen Verein, where he was a member. Many nieces and nephews will remember him as their favorite uncle. He also took pleasure in driving around the Iowa countryside.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Dixon of Westside; two brother and their wives, Frank and Donna Wulf of Temecula, California, and Charles and Rochelle Wulf of Beaumont, Texas; a sister-in-law, Myrna Wulf of Carroll, Iowa; 11 nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Winston Wulf; and a brother-in-law, Melvin Dixon.
