Woodrow W. Witt, the son of William Carl Frederick and Marie Caroline (Holtz) Witt, was born in Lincoln Township, and died at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 29 days.

He was baptized, confirmed, and attended parochial school at the Trinity Lutheran Church northwest of Audubon. He attended high school in Gray, Iowa.

On January 18, 1931, he was united in marriage to Berniece Jones at Trinity Lutheran Church. They farmed the family farm west and north of Gray.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He continued to farm until he retired in 1973. In 1975 they moved to their present home in Audubon. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Manning, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his grandson, Alan Dean Petersen.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece Witt of Audubon, Iowa; his daughter, Joyce Joan Quick of Marshalltown, Iowa; and his son and daughter-in-law, William Jesse and Elaine Witt of Omaha, Nebraska; his grandchildren and spouses: Cindy and David Simon of Olympia, Washington; Craig Linn Petersen of Marshalltown, Iowa; Joan Marie and Steven Kowalski; Margaret Carolyn and Michael Whelton, and Woodrow William Witt all of Omaha, Nebraska; his great-grandchildren: Joanna Kay Simon of Olympia, Washington; Danielle Raye Petersen of Lohrville, Iowa; and Steven William Louis Kowalski of Omaha, Nebraska; his sister, Selma Ullerich of Manning, Iowa; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jay and Carolyn Jones of Burbank, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family of Mr. Witt appreciates the many expressions of sympathy and concern. Everyone is invited to meet with them in the church basement following the committal service.


Woodrow Witt is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
