WADE "BUD" WINSTON MOHR
Wade Winston, only son of Henry and Lillian (Dethlefs) Mohr, was born February 25, 1925, on a farm near Manning, Iowa. Bud, as most knew him, grew up in the home built by his grandfather August Dethlefs in 1921. He attended public school in Manning and during his senior year joined the United States Navy. He completed his basic training in Idaho and was stationed in Europe for over 18 months. He was one of the first men to hit Omaha Beach in the early hours of June 6, 1944.

On June 20, 1945, Bud was united in marriage with Thelma Doyel. To this union seven children were born. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy in December of 1945, Bud returned to Manning and started his own business "Mohr Trucking." In 1955 Bud and Thelma bought the family home built by Bud's grandfather and where Bud had been raised.

As Bud continued the trucking business, he expanded by buying McMahon Feed & Seed in January of 1968. He was named Manning's Businessman of the Year in 1973 and was recognized often for sales and service by the Gooch Feed Mill. As a Wayne Feed Dealer, he and Thelma attended seminars and conventions in the United States, England and Bermuda. He was a life-time member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bud was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. He was proud of his service to his country, his successes as a local businessman and, above all, his family.

Bud enjoyed a productive and active life until failing health in February of 2007 when he and Thelma moved from their family home to an apartment in Manning. Bud suffered several health set backs over several months and on April 23, 2007, died at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 29 days.

Preceding Bud in death are his parents; son Scott in 1990; sister Marilyn and husband Roy Whited and brother-in-law Wayne Schroeder.

He is survived by his wife Thelma Mohr of Manning; three daughters: Gloria and husband Michael Aron of Lincoln, NE; Sandi and husband Jim Good of Northridge, CA and Sherri and husband Gene Steffes of Manning; three sons: Larry Mohr and wife Donna of Mesa, AZ; Doug Mohr of Aspinwall and Steve Mohr and wife Pam of Glidden; nineteen grandchildren: Todd Aron; Jennifer Aron and fiancé Nick Hubbard; Chelsea Good; Chad Mohr and wife Holly; Jeremy Mohr and wife Liz; Andy Mohr; McKenzie Mohr; Randi Mohr and partner Ryan Boell; Heather and husband Joel Schulte; Mandi Mohr; Chris Mohr; Stacey Friedman; Ross Friedman; Nathan Steffes; Ashly Steffes; Cody Steffes; Cole Steffes; Mitchel Steffes; and Chayne Mohr; seven great-grandchildren: Ozzy and Tango Mohr; Maia and Blake Boell; and Payton, Brennan and Brooklyn Schulte; three sisters: Marjorie and husband John Whited of Denison; Lila Schroeder of Manning and Iva and husband Orville Hinze of Carroll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given to the Manning Senior Citizens Center.
