Funeral Service for William E. Meggers of Arcadia, Iowa was held Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Celebrant was Pastor Ben Dose. Organist was Rebecca Dose.

Casket Bearers were Dennis Meggers, Larry Meggers, David Meggers, Douglas Ehlers, Dwight Ehlers, Jeremy Ehlers, and Ryan Schurke. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. with military honors provided by the American Legion Alfred Rossman Post 196 of Westside.

A visitation was held Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia.

William Emil, son of William F. and Elvira (Gruhn) Meggers, was born August 16, 1924, at Manning, Iowa. Bill grew up on a farm northwest of Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1942. After his schooling he farmed with his father.

From 1948 to 1951 Bill served with the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class. After his honorable discharge, Bill returned to Manning and continued farming with his father, as well as his brother until 1977. He then ran a tavern and a bowling alley in Arcadia, called Arcadia Recreation, later renamed to Bill's Place, and retired in 1989. Bill then worked for a number of years at Hy-Vee in the bakery department in Carroll.

Bill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. He was also a member of the American Legion of which he served in the county offices.

Bill also served on the Westside Fire Department. In his spare time Bill enjoyed bowling and fishing.

After a brief stay at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll, Bill transferred to Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, where he passed away late Sunday evening February 13, 2011. He was 86 years, 5 months and 28 days of age.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother Edward Meggers and sister Dorothea Ehlers. He is survived by his brother Duane Meggers and wife Luetta of Westside; brother-in-law Wilbert Ehlers of Arcadia; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
