Richard L. Vehrs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vehrs of Manning, has completed
his initial training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He will attend technical training
school for Aircraft mechanics at Chanute AFB, Illinois.

Interment was held at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Colonial Funeral Home, Universal City, Texas.
Mr. Vehrs was born July 27, 1939, and raised in Manning, the son of Harold and Verna (Grage) Vehrs.
Richard graduated with the MHS class of 1957.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn Vehrs; daughter Darlene Garcia of Early, Texas; son Lt. Rex Vehrs of Ft. Hood, Texas; sisters: Janice Miskimins of Audubon, Iowa, Lois Miskimins of Omaha, Nebraska, Rita Winkelpleck of Grundy Center, Iowa, Verna Stracke of Perry, Iowa, and Cindy Verkler of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother Larry Vehrs of Anchorage, Alaska.

Senior Master Sgt. Richard L. Vehrs, 54, died January 15, 1994.
He was an employee with the National Weather Service in Del Rio for 10 years, and resided here from 1980 until 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Vehrs; daughter Darlene Garcia of Early, Texas; son Lieutenant Rex Vehrs of Fort Hood, Texas; sisters Janice Miskimins of Audubon, Iowa, Lois Miskimins of Omaha, Nebraska; Rita Winkelpleck of Grundy Center, Iowa; Verna Stracke of Perry, Iowa and Cindy Verkler of Fort Worth; brother Larry Vehrs of Anchorage, Alaska.
Visitation is Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Chapel No. 1, Randolph Air Force Base, with chaplains Durbin and Pickett officiating. Interment will follow at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
