Vernon Walter Hinners


SP-3 (T) Vernon Walter Hinners was inducted into the Army on December 7, 1955. He was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and served as a helicopter mechanic. He was discharged from the Army on September 6, 1957, and served in the Reserves until December 6, 1961.

Vernon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Hinners, was in­ducted into the Army in No­vember of 1955. He received his basic training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, and then attended helicopter mechan­ics school in Morton, Pennsylvania. Vernon was later stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and was discharged in September of 1957.



VERNON WALTER HINNERS

Mass of the Christian burial for Vernon Walter Hinners of Manning will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning.

Mr. Hinners, 66, died Sunday, May 24, 1998, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

The Rev. James McAlpin will officiate the Mass. Lector will be John Hinners and Eucharistic minister will be Henry Darveaux. Servers will be Paul Odendahl, Steve Odendahl, and Ross Muhlbauer. Gift bearers will be Mr. Hinners' grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Travis Doyel, Zac Doyel, Brandon Doyel, Jake Doyel, Steve Meislahn, and Jamey Hinners.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at Manning.

Friends called and rosary was prayed this afternoon at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

A son of Arthur and Loretta (Trecker) Hinners, he was born May 4, 1932, near Arcadia. He attended rural school and St. Augustine School in Halbur and graduated from Carroll High School.

He and Margaret Bluml were married April 28, 1953. He began farming with Frank Nagl near Dedham that year.

Mr. Hinners served in the Army as a helicopter mechanic at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, in 1956-57. After his honorable discharge he returned to his family and in 1958 bought a farm near Botna. In 1967, the Hinners moved onto the family farm between Manning and Halbur.

Mr. Hinners was a member of Sacred Heart Parish of Manning and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Manning; eight children: Dan Hinners and his wife, Jeanne, of Manilla, Denise Doyel and her husband, Tom, of Manning, Liesa Meislahn and her husband, Jon, of Audubon, Joe Hinners and his wife, Karen, of Manning, Nadine Hinners and her husband, Jon Hamers, of Omaha, Nebraska, Annette Dotts and her husband, Jeff, of Des Moines, Mike Hinners and his wife, Tracy, of Manning, and Megan Hinners of Manning; 16 grandchildren; eight siblings: Jeanette Eischeid and her husband, Ted, Marjorie Hacker and her husband, Ray, Dolores Darveaux and her husband, Henry, Donald Hinners and his wife, Lois, Arden Hinners and his wife, Judy, Larry Hinners and his wife, Della, Richard Hinners and his wife, Helen, and Jack Hinners and his wife, Lois.

Mr. Hinners was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David, in infancy; and a daughter, Francine, in infancy.
