HOWARD C. SUBBERT
Howard C. Subbert, 69, 210 W. Ninth St. Carroll, died Monday, December 8, 1986, at 2:41 p.m. at SL Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 11, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with the Rev. Charles Haake officiating. The casket will be moved to the church at 11:30 a.m., Thursday to lie in state. A prayer service will be held today at 8 p.m. at Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Friends may call at Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 p.m. today. Casketbearers will be Duane Dozark, Dennis Dozark, Gary Subbert, Allen Bock, Randy Mellinger, and Paul Launderville. Organist will be Mrs. Gail Haake and soloist will be Don Petersen who will sing, "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here."

Mr. Subbert is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Carroll; a son, Ronald and his wife, Karoline, of Muscatine; a daughter, Mrs. Bud (Vickie) Borcherding of Denison; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Subbert, Scott Borcherding, Christopher Subbert, Karleen Subbert, Mark Subbed; a granddaughter-in law, Twyla; sisters, Mrs. Bernice Launderville, of Denison; Mrs. Lavonne Bock of Carroll; Mrs. Glen (Arlene) Kusel of Manning; Mrs. Floyd (Donna) White of Carroll; and Mrs. Don (Janette) Lerssen of Manning; and a brother, Wayne Subbert and his wife, Phyllis, of Jefferson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister in infancy.

Mr. Subbert was born March 9, 1917, in Lidderdale, a son of Chris and Marie (Hein) Subbert. He was a lifelong resident of Carroll County. He married Dorothy Rohde on June 11, 1941, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll.

He served in the Army during World War II as a cook.

He was affiliated with St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll and was a member of American Legion Post No. 22 in Manning. He owned and operated Subbert Drive-In and a cafe in Carroll, and a resort in Annandale, Minnesota. He worked for Super Valu grocery store in Carroll for 20 years and his last job was at the Carroll Hy Vee Food Store.
