Arved Stangl died Saturday, September 8, 2001, at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning at the age of 78.
Arved was born on January 31, 1923, at Roselle, Iowa, the son of Alver and Rose (Bierl) Stangl. He was raised and educated in Portage LaPrairie, Manitoba, Canada.

Arved returned to the United States and entered the U.S. Army in 1944. He served during World War II in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Arved and Mary McGrath were married on October 5, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning and made their home there. Arved was employed by Manning Motor Co. from 1946 until his retirement in 1995. He was a mechanic extra ordinaire. His beloved Mary died in 2000. Arved was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Manning American Legion. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, World War II history, and sports in general.

He is survived by his children, Catherine (Allan) Eilderts, Michael Stangl, Teresa (Doug) Stangl-Walker, Tom (Diane) Stangl, and David Stangl; grandchildren: Colin Bower, Stephanie and Samantha- Stangl: Ashley and Shaunta Eilderts; Elizabeth, Catherine, William, and Alexandra Walker; and Lindsay and Madison Stangl; sister, Gladys Schmitz; half-sister, Sandra (Dennis) Wurr, and step-mother, Irma Stangl. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, John Stangl; brother, Delvin Stangl; sister-in-law, Helen Stangl; and brother-in-law, H.J. Schmitz.


Arved Stangl is buried in the Manning Catholic Cemetery.
