HAROLD L. STAMMER

Funeral services for Harold L. Stammer were held Thursday, May 28, 1987 at 10:30 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Pastor Sushil Joseph, United Methodist Church, officiated the service with Judy Joens, vocalist, and Connie Siepker as organist.
Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Dale Dammann, Duane Otto, Calvin Stammer, Ed Reischl, Alvan Hansen and Lyle Borkowski serving as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Walter Lapel, Elmer Fischer, Marvin Wiemann, Loyd Borkowski, Milford McConnell and Albert Andresen.

Military honors were conducted by Emil Ewoldt Post 22 of the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517, Manning, Iowa.

Harold, son of Louis and Mary Schrum Stammer, was born November 14, 1907 in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He attended rural school near his home. As a young man Harold worked on the family farm with his parents.

In the spring of 1942 he entered the United States Army and served in Italy during World War II. In the fall of 1945 he was honorably discharged and returned to Manning where he began working for Frahm Motor Company. Later he worked at Puck Implement Company until his retirement.
Harold was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manning.
Harold enjoyed good health and remained in his own home until April 1, 1987 when he entered the Veterans Administration Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska for surgery. He was unable to return home and died there on Tuesday, May 26, 1987 at the age of 79 years, 6 months, and 12 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Leslie Stammer, in 1984. Harold is survived by two sisters, Gladys and her husband, Hugo P.G. Jahn, of Manning and Verna and her husband, Ruvilla Rowedder, of Carroll; by one brother, Milo Stammer and his wife, Dolly, of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
