Funeral services for Reverend Carl G. Sinning were held Tuesday, May 2, 1989 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. Reverend Perkins Patton, Reverend Barbara Patton, and Reverend Ray Meester officiated the service with interment in the Manning City Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Ron Frahm, Clifford Tank, Dean Fara, Keith Pfannkuch, Harold Schmidt and Bill Opperman.

Honorary casketbearers included Lyle Arp, Dr. John Hornberger, Gov. Harold Hughes, Lester Wiese, Dr. Norman Kinney and Kevin Freese.

A Masonic memorial service was held Monday, May, 1989 at 8:00 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.


 

Carl G. Sinning, son of Rev. Henry F. and Bertha Lubbers Sinning, was born at Waukon, Iowa on December 4, 1912, and died April 29, 1989 at Adair, Iowa, where he was a patient at the Adair Community Health Care Center. He was 76 years, 4 months, and 25 days of age.

Graduating in 1930 from high school at Kamrar, Iowa, Carl received a BA degree from the University of Dubuque in 1934, and a BD degree from Dubuque Seminary in 1937. After ordination by the Presbytery of Waukon in 1937, he married Vada Bram of Storm Lake, Iowa. They had no children.

Together they served Presbyterian churches in Plankinton, South Dakota and Lone Rock, Lake Park, Ida Grove, and Manning, Iowa, as well as the larger church at Synod and Presbytery levels, including camps and conferences, and youth tours. He participated in counseling and rehabilitation for AA.
Appointed by Gov. Harold Hughes to the Iowa Liquor Control Commission, Carl served several terms in that capacity. Later he served the Presbyterian Church in Guthrie Center before retiring in 1977. In retirement Carl and his wife lived in Manning, where Mrs. Sinning died in 1979.

Carl served three years in the Air Force in World War II, in Miami, Florida; Rantoul, Illinois; and Madison, Wisconsin.
Carl was a member of the American Legion and the Rotary Club, and was active in the Masonic Order.
He was an accomplished organist, many enjoyed his performances.

Besides his wife, Carl was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Norval. Survivors include his brother, Wilton, of Corning, Iowa; two sisters: Marge Sinning, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Mildred, Mrs. Lloyd Fonken, of Rogers, Arkansas; as well as a sister-in-law, Eleanor Sinning, of Rudd, Iowa.
