Associated with banks for 40 years, that's the working history of George Sievert, president of the Manning Trust & Savings bank. Born at Carnarvon in Sac County, George received his education in Wall Lake schools. His first job, he recalled, was as bookkeeper in a lumber yard at Westside.

In 1920, George, went to work in a bank at Denison and continued in that career until 1954. In August of 1955, he came to Manning as president of Manning Trust & Savings.

George is a veteran of army service during World War I, he is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International and secretary of Lutheran Lay men's League. His hobbies are looking after his home and yard.

The banker and his wife Viola are members of Zion Lutheran church.

Four daughters and one son are all grown and married in homes of their own.


George Sievert Buys an Interest In Manning Bank

George Sievert has purchased the interests of Edward Dobler in the Manning Trust and Savings Bank at Manning. Lyle Hansen has been made cashier and Mrs. Pete Struve, assistant cashier. Mr. Dobler has not announced his future plans.


GEORGE E. SIEVERT
George Edward Sievert, the son of John Sievert and his wife Matilda, nee Hanke, was born it Carnarvon, Iowa, on April 16, 1899. In early years he was baptized and later reaffirmed his faith by confirmation in the Lutheran Faith in Wall Lake, Iowa.

As a young man, he came to Denison and here was married to Nora Wardell, a union to which five children were born. Mrs. Sievert died in 1934.

On February 1, 1941, he was united in marriage to Viola Smith and they made their home in Denison until 1955 when they moved Manning, where Mr. Sievert continued in the banking business, at the Manning Trust & Savings Bank, which he had pursued since coming to Denison. In October 1964, they returned to Denison and have lived here since that time. Mr. Sievert was hospitalized on August 17 and died at the Memorial Hospital on Saturday night at 10, August 21, 1965.

Surviving his death are his widow, Viola; the following children: Mrs. Anne Ericson of Geneva, Illinois; Mrs. Georgene Roland of Clearwater, Florida; Mrs. Norma Dryden of Carroll; Robert Sievert of Atlantic; and Mrs. Elsie Baughman of Harlan. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: August of Wall Lake, Louis of Lake City, Arthur of Davenport, and Mrs. Bessie Bretthauer of Denison.

One brother Marvin and one grandson David Paul Sievert preceded him in death.

He had been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison for many years. He served this congregation as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, and also was a member of the Church Council of the congregation for a number of years.

Funeral service was held at Zion on Tuesday, August 24, with the Rev. Carl W. Schmidt officiating.

Hymns were sung by the Lutheran Lady's Choir, with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist.

Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery in Denison, with the following serving as pallbearers: Allen Anderson, Dr. Robert Dappen, Leo Gaughan, Lyle Hansen, Leon Hass, and Marvin Stock.
