Stanley Jay Schrum was born March 10, 1945, at Grand Island, Nebraska, to Elroy and Darlene (Boeck) Schrum. Stan grew up in Manning, Iowa, and graduated Manning High School with the class of 1963. He served four years in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge, Stan settled in Cleveland, Ohio. After obtaining his stationary engineering license, he worked 30 years in the steel industry. Through the years he loved being outdoors to hunt, fish and camp with friends.

In 2007 Stan returned to Manning and began treatments for malignant brain cancer. He never lost his quirky sense of humor or his courage in fighting the disease.

After resettling in his old hometown, Stan had time to enjoy many big family gatherings and celebrations. He especially enjoyed fishing trips and hunting with his brothers.

Stanley died at home in Manning on Friday, May 4, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elroy and Darlene Schrum; grandparents, John and Emma Schrum and Harry and Hattie Boeck; brothers-in-law Keith Kelderman and Dale Moeller.

Stanley is survived by his siblings: Sharon Kelderman, Manning; Steve (Marilyn) Schrum of Nevada; Sue (Dave) Rauch of Manning; Sandy Moeller of Des Moines; Skip (Coleen) Schrum of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; and Sheila Schrum of Des Moines, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
