Royce D. Genzen, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Genzen, aboard the anti-submarine aircraft carrier the USS Hornet, took part in an anti-submarine warfare exercise from February 16-19, off the coast of southern California.

Royce Genzen, age 78 of Pomona, California, and formerly of the Manning/Manilla, Iowa, area, passed away November 8, 2017, at his home following a battle with cancer.

Royce was the son of Lester and Irene (Meggers) Genzen, born January 22, 1939, on the farm north of Manning. Royce was the youngest of five children.

Royce attended Iowa No. 3 country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Manning High School with the class of 1957.

After graduation, Royce entered the Navy and served for four years.

On completion of his military service, Royce settled in California and married Nancy Sparks, and to this union two children were born. Nancy lost her life to Lupus.

Royce met and married his second wife, Janis in 2002. They enjoyed traveling back to Iowa for many visits to family and friends.

Royce loved golf and was known for tee times as soon as the sun was high enough to beat the rush at the course. He followed Iowa and Iowa State games and often called to see if other family members in Iowa were watching also.

Survivors include his wife Janis, daughter Tracy (Denver) Cooley and family, son Royce Dean Genzen, II and his family, sisters Joycelyn (Roger) Koepke of St. Louis, Missouri, Beverly (Larry) Beckman of Odebolt, Iowa, and sister-in-law Diane (Daryl) Genzen of Manning, Iowa. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy, parents Lester and Irene Genzen, sister Phyllis (Denker) Hagge of Westside, and brother Daryl Genzen of Manning.

A memorial service to be held at Todd Memorial Chapel of Claremont, California, on November 18, 2017.
