Louie Rowedder, son of William and Anna (Kall) Rowedder, was born February 17, 1896, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, seven miles northwest of Manning. He attended school at Hayes No. 7 one mile from his home.

After his father's death, he moved to Manning with his mother. He worked as a farm hand in the vicinity before being drafted into the service of his country.

Pvt. Rowedder died as an infantryman with the American Expeditionary Forces October 21, 1918, while serving in France.

The sad news came, last week to Mrs. Rowedder that her son Louie had died in France, October 21 from an attack of pneumonia. His death caused a shock to his many friends as it was thought that now, the war being over, all our soldier boys would be safe from death. The Supreme Ruler of the Universe decided otherwise and his will must prevail. It is hoped that our government bring all our deceased soldier boys home, that fitting honor may be shown them. Many friends of Mr. Rowedder and family keenly sympathize with them in their great loss.
Following is the telegram she received.
Washington, D.C., November 16, 1918. Mrs. Anna Rowedder:
Deeply regret to inform you that it is officially reported that Private Louie Rowedder, infantry, died of bronchial pneumonia, October 21, 1918.
HARRIS.
The Adjutant General.
