Ronald Paul Vogl

1979-80 American Legion Commander

Ronald was inducted into the U.S. Air Force May 1, 1960. He took his basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas and the Aircraft Missile Ground Support Equipment Repairman course at Chanute AFB, Illinois. He served with the 4136th Strategic Wing at Minot AFB, North Dakota, the 38th Missile Maintenance Shop, Sembach AB, Germany and with the 450th FMS Minot AFB, North Dakota. Sergeant Vogl received the Good Conduct Medal, Marksman award and Maintenance man of the month.
Ronald was discharged May 1, 1964, and is a Life Member of V.F.W. and American Legion. He was a past County and past Commander, adjutant, and chaplain of the American Legion and a member of the Color Guard and Drill Team.

A visitation without the family present will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 5 - 7 pm at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning for 81 year old Ronald P. Vogl of Manning. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held later this week. Ron died Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Ronald Paul Vogl, son of Felix and Hilda (Kasparbauer) Vogl, was born June 12, 1941, on the family farm south of Manning. Ron attended school in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1959. He then enlisted with the United States Air Force in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 2, 1960. He received his honorable discharge on May 1, 1964.

On January 21, 1967, Ron was united in marriage with Gay Lynn Singsank at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Two children were born to this union. Ron first worked as a hired hand at Wiese and Sons and then for Ellsworth Schechinger before returning to work with the Wiese family. In 1980, Ron returned to his home place south of Manning and farmed there until retiring in 2021 turning over the operation to his son Jason.

Ron was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, serving as Past Commander and as Carroll County Commander. For several years, Ron served on the Board of Review for the Carroll County Assessor's Office. Ron enjoyed farming and being active with the American Legion. In his spare time, he liked watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza, John Wayne movies, listening to AM 540, especially Buddy Holly, Kitty Wells, and Hank Williams.

In January of 2022, Ron's health began to decline and on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, he died at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 27 days.

Preceding Ron in death are his parents; two sisters Joan Malone and Judy Muhlbauer; four brothers: Paul Vogl, Felix Vogl, Jr., David Vogl, and Bill Vogl; grandparents Paul and Catherin Kasparbauer and Anton and Grace Vogl; and father-in-law Earl Singsank.

Ron is survived by his wife Gay Lynn Vogl of Manning; daughter Tammy and husband Ivan Martin of Urbandale; son Jason Vogl of Manning; two sisters: Dory and husband Wayne Sell of Silver City; Marge and husband Paul Cumpton of Omaha, Nebraska; brother Pat Vogl of Council Bluffs; brother-in-law Jerry Muhlbauer of Halbur; mother-in-law Jean Singsank of Manning; other relatives and friends.
