Reuben Harrison "Mike" Whitcher, 90, a Gonzales farmer for many years, died Friday, February 7, 1979, at Skyline Convalescent Hospital, San Jose, California, following a lengthy illness.
A native of Botna, Iowa, born to Selden and Alice (Moon) Whitcher on September 9, 1888, he had lived in the Fairview area of Gonzales since 1915.
He had retired from farming and made his home on River Road.
He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 81, and during WWII he served with the U.S. Armed Forces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, in 1967.
He is survived by a niece, Hazel Larson, of Sun Valley.
Funeral is pending and will be announced by the Struve and Laporte Funeral Home.
Burial is at Gonzales Cemetery, Gonzales, California.
