Russell Stribe

VFW Commander

Below is what Russ submitted for the Veterans' section of the 2006 Manning Quasqui history book...eventually I'll be able to add more details and pictures about his service.

Russell E. Stribe entered the U.S. Air Force June 15, 1966. He took his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Training was just four weeks due to the very large number of recruits at that time. He attended tech school in Amarillo, Texas, in Civil Engineering, pavement maintenance. He then served at K.I. Sawyer AFB, Michigan, near Marquette for two years and seven months.

In June of 1969 he was sent to Kwang Ju, Korea, where he served one year as a runway maintenance specialist.

He was honorably discharged May 18, 1970, as a sergeant. During his service he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
He is very proud to have served his country and it was a very worthwhile experience to see how third-world countries live.
