Bob was born April 28, 1941, in Manning, Iowa, to Joe and Zita (Hinners) Stein. He was the second of five boys. He grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1960.
Bob joined the Army in 1963 during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany where he received a commendation for marksmanship and served until 1965. Shortly after returning from the service, he met the love of his life, Leona (Hughes) Stein, and they were married September 10, 1966. They had one daughter, Brenda (Stein) Franzen in 1967.
Bob worked most of his life as a machinic/machinist.
He enjoyed camping and collecting guns. Bob was a member of the National Rifle Association and obtained his license to carry weapons at the young age of 72. He was also a lifetime member of his local VFW and wore his Army cap with pride.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe and Zita Stein, brother, William "Bill" Stein; parents-in-law, Paul and Dorothy Hughes; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
Bob is survived by his wife, Leona (Hughes) Stein; daughter,
Brenda (Dean) Franzen; grandchildren, Taylor (Dain) Whitacre, Hunter (Jordanne)
Franzen, Cheyanne (Isaac) Lenz, Sedonah Franzen;
brothers, Jon Stein, Lynn (Laurie) Stein, Lee (Kathy) Stein, and three great-granddaughters.
