RUFERT GEORGE SCHELLDORF
Rufert, son of John D. and Emma Margaret (Ohde) Scheldorf, was born January 15, 1907, at Westside, Iowa. After
graduation from Westside High School, Rufert spent
one year at Iowa State College before entering the United States Army. He made
the military service his career for 23 years. During World War II he served in
many European and African battles and campaigns as a communications technician.
Following his service in the Army during World War II he enlisted in the United
States Air Force where he served in Europe. After his honorable discharge he
returned to Westside, Iowa where he lived with his mother until the time of her
death in 1966. Rufert then moved to Manning where he lived with his sister and brother,
Emily and Ranald. Rufert was a member of the Westside American Legion and the Manning VFW.
Rufert entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home about a week before his death there Monday,
December 3, 1990, at the age of 83 years, 10 months, and 18 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by three brothers,
Marvel, Wilbur, and Ranald Schelldorf, and by a sister, Viola Shouse.
Rufert is survived by the following sisters and brothers, Ellen Gilbert of Portland, Oregon, Anna Underwood of East Hampton, Massachusetts, Owen Scheldorf, of Louisville,
Kentucky, and Emily Anderson of Sun City West, Arkansas, and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The cremains will be interred in the Westside Cemetery in the spring of 1991 with military honors.
