Pvt. Meyers Hospitalized
Word has been received that Pvt. Robert H. Meyers is ill in an evacuation hospital somewhere in Germany.
Robert is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred H. Meyers.


AT STAGING AREA
Among those from this area who have been stationed in the Le Havre, France, staging area awaiting shipment to the United States was Pvt. Robert H. Meyers, son of Mrs. Dorothy M. Meyers, route 2, Manning.
Robert entered service July 18, 1944, and had been overseas 4 1/2 months.
He worked on the home place prior to entering service.

Obituary for Robert H. Meyers

Bob Meyers, 90, of Lake View, died Monday, October 19, 2015, at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. The celebrant will be Fr. John McGuirk assisted by Deacon Butch Stone. Con-celebrant will be Fr. Lynn Bruch. Music will be by Sue Mein and the St. Joseph Choir with Don Derner as cantor. Lector will be Mike Meyers. Gift Bearers will be Jessica Meyers, Jaqulyn Meyers, Elizabeth Walker and Dianna Meyers. Eucharistic Minister will be Jim Derner. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Jessica Meyers, Jaqulyn Meyers, Elizabeth Walker, Dianna Meyers, Ashley Quandt, Stella Walker, and Lydia Quandt. Casket Bearers will be Tyler Quandt, Timothy Meyers, Tony Quandt, Trevin Quandt, Cooper Walker, Neil Glass, and Jeremy Hammer. Burial will be at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Breda with military honors conducted by the Lake View Legion.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, and continue until the time of the funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

Robert Herman was born on September 4, 1925, in Carroll, Iowa, to Alfred and Dorothy (Herman) Meyers. He attended the Halbur Country School, and graduated from Carroll High School in 1944.

Robert served in the United States Army during WWII as a Private First Class, where he was stationed at Ft. Robinson, Arkansas and Germany. He also served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant, he was also stationed in Japan, Biloxi, MS, and Cape Canaveral, Florida, which he helped open.

Bob was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church in 1954. On April 21, 1954, Robert was united in marriage to Colett Derner at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Breda, Iowa. They were blessed with eight children.

Bob worked for the Carroll County Roads Department before accepting a job with United Airlines. He worked for the airlines for 27 years, retiring at the age of 57 in 1982. Bob enjoyed playing cards, solving cryptograms, fishing, traveling, camping with his family and taking afternoon drives. Bob was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wall Lake and the Lake View American Legion. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife Colett Meyers of Lake View; children: Mike (Linda) Meyers of Blue Springs, Missouri, Margaret (Dale) Quandt of Carroll, Marty (Sara) Meyers of Independence, Missouri, Steve (Chris) Meyers of Independence, Missouri, Mary Lou (Tim) Rourke of Omaha, Nebraska, Sharon Meyers of Columbus Junction, and Kenny Meyers of Sitka, Alaska; 8 grandchildren: Jessica and Jaqulyn Meyers, Elizabeth (Cooper) Walker, Diana and Timothy Meyers; Tyler, Tony (Ashley) Quandt, and Trevin Quandt; 2 great-grandchildren: Stella Walker, and Lydia Quandt; and 2 great-grandchildren on the way; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, John Paul Meyers, 2 sisters-in-law, and 5 brothers-in-law, and mother and father-in-law: Art and Marguerite Derner.
