Raymond was inducted into the Army February 3, 1966. He took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and advanced individual training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He served with the Crash & Rescue Infantry in Europe. SSG Hagedorn received the National Defense Service medal. He was discharged January 15, 1968 and commented that his time in service was a "good experience".
