Raymond Borkowski

Petty Officer Allen Borkowski visited his brother, Raymond Borkowski from Sunday to Tuesday. He has been transferred from the USS Blank at San Diego, California, to the USS Manley at Charleston, South Carolina. He is a brother of Raymond Borkowski, who served in the Korean War.

Raymond C. Borkowski, 93 of Britt, formerly of Leland died peacefully, Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Visitation Thursday, September 23, 2021, 1:00PM Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson
Graveside Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Iowa. Military Honors will be performed by the Jefferson American Legion Post #11. Please bring a lawn chair if you would like to attend.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Raymond Borkowski memorial fund in care of the family.


Raymond C. Borkowski was born May 23, 1928, in Manning, Iowa, the son of Roy Carl and Julia Johanna (Friedrichsen) Borkowski. He entered into the United States Army and served during the Korean War, he was awarded the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged. He was married to Barbara Jean McCormack on January 23, 1954 in Scranton, Iowa. Ray worked for the Stockyards in Rutland, Iowa and the COOP Elevator in Ottosen, Iowa, before moving to Forest City in 1972 where he worked at the Forest City Elevator and then the Forest City Hospital in the maintenance department until retirement. Ray and his wife Barb moved to Leland in 2010 and he has spent his last four years at the Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa.

Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (James) Powers of Garner, Iowa; and grandsons, Cory Lee Powers of Garner, Iowa; Brian Lewis Powers of Britt, Iowa; and Jeremy Jon Powers of Boise, Idaho; and brother, Russell Borkowski of Climbing Hill, Iowa.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Jean (2021); brothers, Merle, LaVerne and Allen Borkowski and sister, Florence Fister.
