Norman E. Schroeder Manning Monitor Memorial services for Norman E. Schroeder were held Sunday, July 28, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Huron, South Dakota. The Reverend Richard Rinearson officiated with Cheryl Hofer as pianist. Huron Veterans Council provided military honors. Urn Bearers were Chad Bell, Megan Bell, Lindsay Kleinsasser and Alayna Kleinsasser. Honorary Urn Bearers were Jim Dixon, Jack Hyde, Ralph Cooper, Vonnie Kozel, Darrell Hollister, and Jesse Jorgensen. Interment was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Huron, South Dakota. Norman E. Schroeder was born February 21, 1925 to Herman and Amelia (Rowedder) Schroeder in Manning, Iowa. He began school in Iowa and finished in Huron. Norman enlisted in the Army Air Corps in June 1943 and was discharged September 1946. He was a pilot in the 442nd Troop Carrier Group in the European Theater. Norman married Lurane H. Kouf at Huron May 21, 1948. In June 1953 he began working at the US Postal Service. He was a rural mail carrier for 27 years and retired in 1990 with a total of 42 years of government service. Norman was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion, a life member of the VFW and Rural Letter Carriers Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and bowling. He and his wife spent their winters in Arizona. After retirement he delivered cars for Prostrollo Motors in Huron. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lewis and Arlo, and a sister, Alice. He is survived by his wife, Lurane, of Huron; two daughters, Rhonda Bell, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Valerie Kleinsasser and her husband, Rex Kleinsasser, of Boulder, Colorado; four grandchildren, Chad Bell and his wife, Robyn Summers, Megan Bell, and Lindsay and Alayna Kleinsasser; two brothers, Merlin and his wife, Florence Schroeder, of Manning, Iowa and Kenneth and his wife, Phyllis Schroeder, of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. |
