Vernie L. Schrum, S 1/c, of Washington, D.C., has completed a seven-day leave with her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Schrum. She is the wife of their son, Donald, who is serving overseas in the army.

Only woman member of the American Legion post of Manning was introduced to the male membership last week when 95 diners had their fill of turkey and trimmings at the annual Armistice day dinner.
The distinction goes to Mrs. Donald Schrum, member of the Waves, who was home on leave at that time.

Mrs. Vernie Lea (Long) Schrum, 81, died Sunday, October 20, 1996, at the Longview Care Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Methodist Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa, with the Rev. Dick Krambeck officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Julius F. Muller American Legion Post 337 will be at Rose Hill Memorial Garden in Missouri Valley.

Mrs. Schrum was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and lived in Missouri Valley for the past 45 years. She was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star in Manning, Iowa, Abu Bekr Shrine Auxiliary in Sioux City, Iowa, Waves International in Washington, D.C., American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, and the American Legion Post 337, all in Missouri Valley.

An Eagles memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will follow at the Hennessey-Hurley-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.

Services were Wednesday, October 23, 1996, for Vernie L. Schrum, 81 of Missouri Valley, Iowa. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Missouri Valley, Iowa.

She was born April 19, 1915, at Kannapolis, North Carolina.

Vernie L. Schrum is survived by her husband, Donald of Missouri Valley; a son and wife, Randal and Kathrine, Fort Calhoun; and grandsons, Aaron and Karl of Fort Calhoun.
