Michael Stangl
Mike entered the service June 13, 1972, at Omaha, Nebraska. He was released from active duty on June 11, 1976, at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii and received an honorable discharge March 29, 1978.

Michael was a precision photo system specialist achieving the rank of Sergeant E4. His last duty assignment was DET 3, 1369 Photo SQ (MAC). Mike was cited with these recognitions: NDSM - AFM 900-3/AFGCM - AFM 900-3 (June 13, 1972 to June 12, 1975)

Michael A. Stangl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arved J. Stangl, Manning, has been assigned to Hickam AFB, Hawaii, from Shaw AFB, South Carolina.
An Air Force sergeant, he is a precision photographic systems repairman with a unit of the Military Airlift Command.
He is a 1971 graduate of Manning High School.

Funeral Services for Michael Stangl, formerly of Manning, were held on Tuesday December 18, 2007, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel. Internment was in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Michael Arved, son of Arved and Mary (McGrath) Stangl was born July 1, 1952, in Carroll, Iowa. Mike was a graduate of Manning High School, class of 1971. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force for 5 years as a camera repair specialist. During this time he was stationed in South Carolina, Colorado, and Hawaii.

After leaving the service, he was employed by the Des Moines Register as a district paper manager, serving an area of southwest Iowa that included Manning. As a former paper carrier, Mike brought a wealth of experience to the carriers that he supervised during this time. After leaving the Register, he pursued a variety of business opportunities, including motel management in Florida, and managing a catering service in Marshalltown. At the time of his death, Mike was employed by the Marshalltown Times-Republican.

Mike died of complications from liver disease, on Thursday December 13, 2007, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother John in 1979; uncle & aunt Ralph and Lorraine McGrath; aunt & uncle Helen and Ray Pratt; and uncle Robert (Bob) McGrath.

He is survived by his three children, Colin (Rogers, MN), Stephanie (St. Louis, MO) and Samantha (Iowa City, IA) and his long time friend Sherry Laughton; his sisters, Cathie (Eilderts), Teresa (Walker), brothers Tom and David; brothers-in-law Allan Eilderts and Doug Walker; sister-in-law Diane, and nephew and nieces Ashley Eilderts, Elizabeth, Catherine, William and Alexandra Walker, Lindsay Valenty, and Madison Stangl.

Donations may be made in Mike's name to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
