Murace Eldon Weems

Murace Eldon, Charley Burl, and Newton Emery, sons of Charley William and Rosa Millet Weems, were in the service during World War II.
Murace "Eldon" entered the Navy July 6, 1942 at Great Lakes, Illinois, and went to radio school at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. He served both in the Pacific and Asiatic areas on the following service vessels and with these stations held: NTS, Great Lakes, Illinois; USS Bailey DD492, USS Maury 401 CBS 6 Flag Allow, USS Cascade AD 16FFT, USS Bagley DD 386FA CDS 6, USS Otterstetter DE 244, and USS Wilson DD 408 ComDe A Div. 12. He was awarded 13 Battle Stars and was discharged as a Radioman 3/C December 14, 1945, at USN Personnel Separation Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota.


Murace Weems is buried in the Manning Cemetery.

Murace Weems in Radio
Evanston, Ill. Murace E. Weems 30, son of Mrs. Rosa B. Weems, Botna, Ia., has been selected to receive specialized instruction as a radioman at the U. S. Naval Training School on Northwestern university campus here. Upon completing the 16 week course he will be eligible for promotion to a third class petty officer before being assigned to duty afloat or ashore.
Weems, who enlisted in the Navy July 6, took his "boot" training at the U. S. Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill.
