Merlin Voss
Merlin E. Voss, 65, Onawa, Iowa, died April 22, 1985, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.

He was born May 31, 1919, at Ricketts to Ernest and Emma (Carstens) Voss. On May 17, 1940, he was united in marriage to Hazel Pollock at Dakota City, Nebraska.

During World War II he served with the U.S. Army in Europe.

The couple lived at Denison and Ida Grove before moving to Onawa in 1963. He was a farmer and auto body repairman before retiring in 1969.

He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, David McNeill American Legion Post No. 129, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2270, all of Onawa.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; three sons, Randall of Cherokee, Terry of Des Moines, and Bill of Onawa; one daughter, Jane Voss of Bloomington, Minnesota; his mother, Mrs. Emma Voss, of Denison; one sister, Mrs. James (Eunice) Buchholz of Carroll; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa with Pastor Quentin Quanbeck officiating. Mrs. Syril Brown, the organist, accompanied Steve Johnson who sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Pallbearers were Don Loomis, Clifford "Butch" Harding, Roy Wakehouse, Jeff Bean, Keith Richardson, and Bill Collison.

Interment was in the Onawa City Cemetery with Military Flag Presentation by David McNeill American Legion Post No. 129, Onawa, LeRoy Kepner, Commander.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa.
