Marvin, son of Louis and Selma (Miller) Vennink, was born October 9, 1941, near Manilla in Crawford County. Iowa. He was baptized into the Christian faith on May 10, 1942. Marvin attended Manilla and Manning schools, graduating from Manning High School in 1960. After graduating, he joined his father in farming the family farm. Marvin enlisted in the National Guard in 1964 and served six years.

On June 26, 1966, Marvin was united in marriage with Sandra Jorgensen at the First Presbyterian Church in Manilla. At that time Marvin decided to go into business for himself, renting and farming several farms in the Manilla area until purchasing his own farm east of Manilla in 1975. Marvin continued to farm until his retirement in 2003. During his farming career he was known for his innovative conservation farming practices, which were featured in numerous farming magazines and lectures around the state.

Marvin was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, Crawford County Conservation Board, National Trappers Association, Iowa Trappers Association and Fur Takers of America, as well as numerous other farming and conservation organizations through the years. Conservation of Iowa's natural resources was of utmost importance to Marvin. He is remembered for his statement, "As stewards of the land, it is our responsibility to conserve and maintain our resources for future generations."

On Tuesday, February 24, 2004, Marvin died at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, after battling cancer this past year. He was 62 years, 9 months, and 14 days of age.

Besides his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by two brothers Marlin Vennink and Wayne Vennink.

Marvin is survived by his children: Brandon Vennink and wife Lei Yu of Kansas City, Missouri; and Byron Vennink and wife Candi of Woodbine; three grandchildren: Wade Ryan, Autumn Whitleigh, and Johann Michael; a brother Allen Vennink and wife Pat of Manning; four sisters: Mildred Spies and husband Russell of Gray; Lois Frahm and husband Ronald, Anna Belle Wegner and husband Errol and Marilyn Pfannkuch and husband Keith, all of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
