Marland H. Mork was born on May 28, 1931, at Manning, Iowa, the son of Roy and Alvera (Dethlefs) Mork. He passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, after being a resident for a short time at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-five. He is buried in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison.

He grew up on a farm near Irwin, Iowa, where he attended area schools and graduated from Irwin High School with the class of 1949. In high school, he was one of the best pitchers in the league, being a left-hander. He had to quit baseball, however, when his mother died and he was needed at home. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Marland was united in marriage to Erma Jean "Jeanie" Eggert February 24, 1952, and they were blessed with the birth of three sons.

Marland was drafted into the Army in May of 1952 and served his country for two years, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture in the Soil Conservation Service for forty-one years. He was involved specifically in the designing of the Yellowsmoke dam and the Majestic Hills golf course dam, as well as numerous farm ponds in five surrounding counties.

He coached Little League and Senior League baseball for many years, including coaching his sons. He and Jeanie wintered in Texas at Port Isabell South Padre for seventeen years as well as enjoying their summers at the cabin in Lake View since 1973. His favorite hobby was woodworking making many beautiful furniture pieces out of light oak for their home and for his sons' homes. Other hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, cruising in his Model A with a car club and many family activities which included going to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. His greatest passion was his family, especially enjoying holiday events.

Marland was preceded in death by his parents; son Steve in 1994; daughter-in-law Tracy in 2010; brother, Larry; brother-in-law Gerald; stepmother, Gertrude; stepsister, Charleen; stepbrother-in-law, Kenneth; and stepbrother-in-law, Eugene.

Survivors include: his wife, Jeanie of 65 years; two sons, Dan (Donita) and Tom (special friend Kara); one sister, Dwanna; four grandchildren Matt (Ashley); Mallory (fiancé Wade), Camryn and Keaton; one great-grandson Kaleb; stepbrother, Arlo; step-sister, Verta Mae; and sisters-in-law, Edaline and Loretta.
