Michael was inducted into the U.S. Army January 26, 1971. He took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas, and served with the Supply and Transportation Battalion. Spec 4 Blum received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged October 30, 1972.
