Lyle Borkowski, US56542255, was inducted into the Army at Omaha, Nebraska, on October 4, 1966. He took basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas. Then he received AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, with a MOS 13E20 in Artillery Direction Control with a Secret Security Clearance. His next duty station was Fort Hood, Texas, for six months. While there he attended the Non-commissioned Officers' Academy. Port of call for service in Vietnam was Fort Lewis, Washington, August 9, 1967. In Vietnam Lyle was assigned to A Battery 6th Battalion 15th Artillery with the 1st Infantry Division, which operated in the "Iron Triangle" north of Saigon, South Vietnam. After serving in Vietnam he received an honorable discharge on August 11, 1968, from the U.S. Army Personnel Center in Oakland, California, with a rank of Specialist 5th Class. During his tour in Vietnam he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star Medal.
