Dear Sirs:

LEROY D. VINKE

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 21, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning for LeRoy D. Vinke, 79, who died Thursday, May 19, 1988, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Burial was at Manning City Cemetery. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 and Emil Ewoldt Post 22 of the American Legion conducted military honors.

Pastor Sushil Joseph of United Methodist Church in Manning, officiated the services.

Casket bearers were Earl Schwiesow, Louis Schwiesow, Jim Conrad, Victor Schwiesow, Vern Daeges, and Jeff Conrad.

Music was provided, by organist Connie Siepker and vocalist Larry Genzen.

Born November 25, 1908, near Manning, Mr. Vinke was a son of Gustav and Mary (Carstens) Vinke. He attended country schools near his home.

During World War II, he served with the Navy on a ship that repaired damaged U.S. Navy vessels. Most of his duty was in the Western Pacific, including the Philippines and Iwo Jima.

Following the war he resided in Carroll, where he lived until he moved two years ago to the Bayard Care Center nursing home in Bayard.

He was a mechanic and his last job before retiring in the mid-1970s was with J.I. Case Implement in Carroll.

He was a member of the American Legion and Moose lodges in Carroll. He also led a polka band which played in the Carroll area.

Mr. Vinke is survived by his daughter, Marlene Conrad of South St. Paul, Minnesota; two grandsons, Jim Conrad and his wife, Deb, of South St. Paul, Minnesota, and Jeff Conrad of Eagan, Minnesota; three great-grandchildren, Jahna, Theah, and Jimmie; and a brother, Henry Vinke of Manning.


Leroy Vinke is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
