Lillian (Kroger) Roberts


MRS. LILLIAN ROBERTS, 41
Lillian Ruby Roberts, daughter of Thomas and Ella (Brensel) Kroger, was born June 18, 1923, at Harlan, Iowa. She died at her home in San Francisco, California, on May 9, 1965, at the age of 41 years, 10 months, and 21 days.

As a child she moved with her family to Audubon, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.

In 1939, she was married to John Diaz and to this union two children were born. They are Carolyn, now Mrs. Ronald Nollen of Harlan, and John Diaz, Jr., of Sumner, Iowa.

In 1942, she joined the Woman Army Corps during World War II and served until after the death of her husband in 1949. She then was discharged at Santa Anna, California, where she lived until moving to San Francisco in 1945.

She later married Fred Roberts, Jr., in 1953. He died in 1956. Mrs. Roberts was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Kroger; and a granddaughter, Pamela Renee Nollen.

In addition to her two children, she is survived by her parents, Ella and Tom Kroger of Harlan; six sisters, Mrs. Esther Stanley of Harlan; Violet, Mrs. Lyle, Vore of Eugene, Missouri; Fern, Mrs. Kent, Parkhurst of Harlan; Darlene, Mrs. John L., Hansen of Audubon; Beverly, Mrs. Don, Obermeier of Audubon and Marilyn, Mrs. Gerald O., Anderson of Harlan and by four brothers, Kenneth Kroger of Marietta, Georgia; Darold, Louis, and James Kroger, all of Harlan; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 17, 1965, at 1 p.m. at the Pauley Home for Funerals in Harlan with Pastor Oscar E. Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with Tim Hinkle, Joe Hinkle, David Stanley, Allan Stanley, Larry Nollen, and Bernard Nollen serving as pallbearers.

Her husband, John (September 12, 1885 - February14, 1949) is buried in Pioche Public Cemetery, Pioche, Nevada.
