Louie J. Otto
Louie Julius, son of Carl Reinhold and Catharine W. (Hass) Otto, was born January 20, 1917, near Aspinwall, Iowa. As a young baby, he was baptized into the Lutheran Church and was later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Louie attended country school through the eighth grade in Iowa Township.

During World War II, Louie served with an infantry division with the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He then returned to Aspinwall and worked as a mechanic before farming with his father on the family farm.

On March 22, 1950, Louie was united in marriage with Dalores Hagedorn at the Lutheran parsonage in Denison. They continued to farm Louie's family farm. No children were born to this union, however they were blessed with helping raise Dalores' nephew, Larry Hagedorn. In 1988 they retired and moved into Manning.

Louie was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, gardening and caring for his lawn. Louie especially enjoyed entertaining in their home and joining his family for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

On Thursday, February 26, 2004, Louie died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, following a period of declining health.
He was 87 years, 1 month and 6 days of age.

Besides his parents, Louie was preceded in death by four brothers: Henry, Bennie, Bill and Elmer Otto.

He is survived by his wife Dalores Otto of Manning; special nephew Larry Hagedorn and wife Beth of Irwin and their daughters Ashley and Jody; sisters Milda Malone of Carroll and Malinda Dammann of Manilla; three sisters-in-law: Irene Otto of Spencer, Geneice Otto and Myrtle Otto, both of Manning; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

THE TWENTY-THIRD PSALM
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still water. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me: Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anoitest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
