He is the son of John and Clara Kasperbauer and attended Ewoldt #3 Country School.
He graduated from Manning High School in 1965.

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lonnie Kasperbauer, age 76, in Des Moines, Iowa, on September 13, 2023.

Lonnie was born August 16, 1947, to John and Clara (Balk) Kasperbauer and was raised on a farm north of Manning, Iowa. He attended Ewoldt No. 3 country school and graduated from Manning High School in 1965. Lonnie attended Northwest Missouri State University until enlisting in the U.S. Army. Lonnie attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1967, later reaching the level of Captain. He went on to flight training and received his wings prior to serving a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Lonnie worked in management at Great Plains Bag Corporation, later known as Stone Container in Des Moines, where he met his wife Louise (Lou) Schulz. They were married February 29, 1980. In later years, he became Lou’s devoted care giver.

Lonnie was very proud of his daughter Keslie Werner, son Travis Kasperbauer, and granddaughter Ashley Werner.

Lonnie had many interests including bowling, playing cards, road trips, and following his granddaughter’s basketball teams, both high school and college. He and Lou never missed a game regardless of the distance!

In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife Louise, brothers: Patrick, James, Mike, and Jerry Kasperbauer, and sisters: Marian Fitzsimmons and Patty Sheets.

Lonnie is survived by daughter Keslie (Ed) Werner of Monona, Wisconsin; son Travis Kasperbauer of San Francisco, California; granddaughter Ashley (Billy Hirschfeld) of Waukesha, Wisconsin; brother Larry (Carmen) of Guam; twin sister Linda Johanson of Forest City, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Kathy Kasperbauer of Council Bluff, Iowa; Marge Kasperbauer of Collierville, Tennessee; Isabel Kasperbauer of Lexington, Kentucky; Norma Kasperbauer of Gainesville, Virginia; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:30 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel. There will be a reception at the Veterans Reception Center (American Legion Post 402), 910 Main Street, Van Meter after the cemetery committal service.
