Jason Knueven
Earns Second Lieutenant Bars

Recently the parents of Jason Knueven had the honor of pinning his second lieutenant bars on at a ceremony held at Camp Dodge in Des Moines, August 11.

Parents Gary and Linda Knueven did the honors at the Stark building, Camp Dodge, Des Moines, Iowa.

Jason has been in the National Guard since 1996 and served six months in Kuwait in 2001. A 1997 graduate of Manning High School, Knueven will be assigned to C-Company 1-113 in LeMars, Iowa. He is currently a student in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Jason went to OCS in Des Moines at 185th RT1 for 14 months. In that time he did a 2-week training in Camp Ripley, Minnesota. At Camp Ripley he learned a lot about land navigation and leadership. Upon the completion of Phase 1, he did one weekend a month at Camp Dodge with the 185th RT1 for a year. In phase II he learned several things about the history of the military to leadership styles. After Phase II he went to Fort Lewis Washington for the phase III of OCS. At Fort Lewis they tied everything they had learned throughout OCS together and he was evaluated in leadership positions. After Phase III completion he flew back to Des Moines and graduated from OCS as a 2nd Lt. OCS Class 47-02 started with 86 students and they graduated August 11, 2002 with 50 2nd Lts.

Jason decided to become an officer while he was in Kuwait one year ago and followed through for 14 months to make his dreams come true.

In the future when Jason is finished with school he hopes to transfer to the Air Calvary.

Grandparents are Marion Knueven of Manning and Cliff and Peggy Nelson, Grimes, Iowa.
