Mass of the Christian burial for Oswald H. "Oz" Kisgen of Templeton will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 21, 1998, at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton.
Mr. Kisgen, 79, died Thursday, December 17, 1998, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
The Revs. Gary Snyder, Merlin Schrad and M. O'Byrnc will concelebrate the Mass. Lectors will be Steve Eldoff and Darren Kisgen, Doug Kisgen will give remembrances. Eucharistic ministers will be Bonnie Langel and Mary Ann Irlmeier. Servers will be Amanda Prebeck, Jon Prebeck, and Ashley Mahan. Gift bearers will be Laura Wiederien and Lisa Wiederien.
Casket hearers will be Steve Eldoff, Doug Kisgen, Darren Kisgen, Eric Wiederien, Bob Mahan, and Eugene Prebeck. Honorary casket bearers will be Bert Greteman, Bob Kisgen, Merlyn Zubrod, John Meiners, Kenneth Wieland, and Sylvester Irlbeck.
Burial with military honors by American Legion Post No. 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1517, both of Manning, will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at Templeton.
Friends will call after 2:30 and sacred Heart Parish will recite a rosary at 3 Sunday afternoon at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. The Knights of Columbus will have a rosary at 7:30 and a prayer service will be conducted at 8:30 Sunday night at the funeral home.
Born March 22, 1919, at Templeton, he was a son of John and Elizabeth (Pille) Kisgen and attended Sacred Heart School in Templeton.
He and Ruth Lechtenberg were married August 13, 1940, at Templeton.
Mr. Kisgen was drafted into the Army in 1944 and he served in New Guinea and, the Philippines. After being honorably discharged in 1946 he returned to the Templeton area and worked several different jobs.
In 1959, he took over his father's business and became an "oil jobber" for Phillips Petroleum Co. He retired in 1988.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the KCs of Templeton and the Manning Legion and VFW posts. He played baseball and coached Little League in his younger years, was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling.
Mr. Kisgen overcame a bout with cancer in 1988 but after having cancer surgery on October 31, his health failed.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Templeton; three children: Sharon Eldoff and her husband, John, of Omaha, Nebraska, Jim Kisgen and his special friend, Jean Larson, of Fremont, Nebraska, and Kay Lynn Wiederien and her husband, Ron, of Haysville, Kansas; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; four brothers: Elmer Kisgen, of Carroll; Orville Kisgen and his wife, Norma, of Portland, Oregon; John Kisgen and his wife, lone, of Venice, Florida; and Paul Kisgen and his wife, Kay, of Mesa, Arizona; five sisters: Beatrice Martes and her husband, Eugene, of Portland, Oregon; Marge Heithoff and her husband, Linus, of Manning; Betty Mahan of Carroll, Jeanne Neu and her husband, Earl, of Sun City West, Arizona; and Mary Nichols of Sun City, Arizona; and a brother-in-law, William Long, of Carroll.
Mr. Kisgen was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ted, and two sisters, Sophie and Bonnie, all as young children; and a sister, Evelyn Long.
