Daniel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at Omaha, Nebraska, in 1982 and received his basic training at the Marine Corps Depot in San Diego, California. From there he was sent to North Carolina for schooling and then to Okinawa for one year. He went back to North Carolina for 1 1/2 years and was released to Inactive Reserves in January of 1985. Lance Corporal D-3 Kalkhoff received his honorable discharge in January of 1988.
