Memorial Service Friday, Apr 14, 2017 1:00 PM First Christian Church 2000 N. Lincoln Avenue Loveland, Colorado

Kenneth Marvin Hass, 74, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017, very suddenly at his home in Loveland, Colorado. Ken was born on a farm near Manning, Iowa, on January 1, 1943, to Marvin William and Florence Irene (Steckelberg) Hass. He was the second of six children. They later moved to Manning, Iowa, where Ken worked his very first job. He arose early every morning to help the city milkman deliver milk to the residents. Ken's father was killed in a tragic accident in 1954. Later in his teenage years he went to live with his aunt and uncle, Lester and Viola Hass, on a farm near Irwin, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Irwin Community School in 1961. Ken was a dedicated athlete in all high school sports, football being his favorite. He carried his football passion as he remained an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers from those early years until his death. Recently in an article thanking his aunt and uncle for opening their home to him in those teenage years, he wrote one of the major Blessings of this move in his life was at this same high school he met his future wife of 54 years, Jolene Swenson Hass.

Upon graduation from high school he joined the United States Navy. Ken became a Radioman and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He traveled home to Iowa to attend Jolene's graduation from high school in May of 1962. After her graduation celebration at her home, he asked her to marry him. They were married on December 31, 1962. Jolene joined him in Hawaii where they lived until Ken's honorable discharge from the United States Navy. Ken was also a Vietnam Veteran. Their oldest son, Lanny, was born in Hawaii in 1964. They traveled home to Iowa upon Ken's discharge and settled in Carroll, Iowa where Ken was hired by Old Home and Peter Pan Bakeries as a route salesman. He had a route in the Storm Lake, Iowa, district which then moved his family to Storm Lake. Their second child, Robin, was born in Storm Lake. Ken remained with the Bread Companies until he was hired by Ralston Purina Company in 1969. He moved his family to the farm near Kirkman, Iowa, during the Ralston Purina years. Dan, their youngest son, was born in 1970 in Harlan, Iowa.

In 1980 Ken relocated his family to Loveland, Colorado where he again became a route salesman for Oroweat Entenmanns Company. He retired in 2005 but continued to work...those jobs have been diversified but he enjoyed them all. They include Quality Communications in Las Vegas, TRPR in Johnstown and Loveland Ford in Loveland.

Ken loved his family and always knew what was going on in every one of their lives. The grandkids can attest to this. He never missed a game of whatever their sporting choice was or drama production by the youngest grand-daughter unless it was too far out of town. He was their biggest fans. Ken never grew too old to be a father and grandfather to the fullest degree.

Ken lived a full life. He left behind a family that will forever be grateful for this love and purpose in their lives. That family includes his wife, Jo; three children: Lanny (Suzanne), Robin (deceased), and Dan (Kim); Grandchildren: Kenneth Coel (Jessica), Tory, Tesarra, Payton, Koby, and Faith; Great Grandson, Jeremy. Also many "adopted" Grandchildren that he always held precious from Jo's years of Day Care. Ken also leaves 2 brothers, Keith (Sandra) and Kurt, and a sister, Kathy, all in Iowa along with many more relatives and a host of friends in Iowa and Colorado.

A Celebration of Ken's Life will be held Friday, April 14th, at First Christian Church in Loveland at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home.
