Rite of Christian Burial for John George Willenborg was held Monday, February 8, 1993 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Templeton, Iowa. Reverend Father Gary Snyder was the celebrant with music provided by the Sacred Heart Choir. Gift bearers were Jessi Drees, Stacy Willenborg and Katie Wunschel. Interment was held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Templeton, Iowa with Duane Bueltel, Dave Sporrer, Gerald Irlbeck, Bernard Irlbeck, Bill Rupiper and Dan Sturm as casketbearers. A Rosary was held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and a prayer service and Rosary were held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning were in charge of arrangements.
John, son of Ben and Mayme Kettman Willenborg, was born January 22, 1930 at Templeton, Iowa. He attended Sacred Heart School in Templeton.

During the Korean Conflict, from November 1951 until October 1953, John served in the United States Army in Germany with Combat Engineers.

On February 9, 1954 John was united in marriage with Colette Muhlbauer at Vail. After their marriage he worked with road construction for five years, and in 1960 began farming. From 1982 to 1990 he was a Pioneer Seed Corn sales representative. John was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton, the Knights of Columbus, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manning. After a short illness John died on Friday, February 5, 1993 at the home of his daughter in Carroll at the age of 63 years and 14 days.

He was preceded in death by his father; by a brother, Bernard Willenborg; and by two sisters: Dorothy Drake and Mary Ann Hugeback.
Survivors included his wife, Colette, of Templeton; his children: Lynn Willenborg and his wife, Sue, of Halbur; Eileen Drees, of Carroll; Allen Willenborg, of Carroll; and Joan and her husband, Rick Wunschel, of Wall Lake; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Mayme Willenborg, of Templeton; a brother, Harold Willenborg and his wife, Elsie, of Carroll; his mother-in-slaw, Margaret Muhlbauer, of Manilla; two brothers-in-law: Joseph Drake, of Bayard and Joseph Hugeback, Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
