Jack West


Jack West, who has enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve, left Thursday afternoon for Des Moines to report for service. His mother, Mrs. Jack West of Kingsley, his sister, Carol Jean, and Mrs. Rose Murray of Kingsley, will be dinner guests of his grandmother, Mrs. Mary West, in Manning that day.

Jack West Waits For Navy Release
Jackie West, S 1-c, who recently has been stationed at Pearl Harbor, is now in Chicago, awaiting his discharge and visiting with his sister, Mrs. Joe Miller, the former LaMorne West.
Jackie, a graduate of Manning high school is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack West of Kingsley and the grandson of Mrs. Mary West of Manning.

Jack F. West, 68, of 479 97th Ave., East Moline, died Tuesday, August 22, 1995, at Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, Moline, Illinois.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Church, Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, Rock Island, Illinois, with military rites by the East Moline American Legion Color Guard.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. West was born May 21, 1927, in Manning, Iowa, the son of Lester Bowman "Jack" and Pearl (Franzwa) West. He married Mardella Moline June 9, 1956, in Matherville, Illinois.

He was employed as a contract specialist for 13 years at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1992.

He was a World War II and Korean War Navy Veteran.

He was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter and son-in-law, Kerry and Donn Burson, Chandler, Arizona; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Jennifer West, Richton Park, Illinois; and Kent and Trudy West, Rock Island, Illinois; three grandchildren; and sisters, Phyllis Schmidt, Moville, Iowa; LaMorne Schurtz, Galesburg, Illinois; and Carol Park, Scranton, Iowa.
