Pfc. Jacob Daniel Doyel


Pfc. Jacob Daniel Doyel of Manning completed infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia, on November 30.

The 14-week training course consisted of drill and ceremonies, tactical communications, weapon marksmanship, nuclear-biological-chemical warfare and military history.

Doyel, a member of the Iowa Army National Guard unit in Carroll, is a son of Tom and Denise Doyel and a 2001 graduate of Manning High School.

2005 information
SPC Doyel completed infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia, on November 30, 2001. The fourteen-week training course consisted of drill and ceremonies, tactical communications, weapon marksmanship, nuclear-biological-chemical warfare and military history. Doyel was informed of the 9-11 attacks while conducting advanced training at Fort Benning. Training was halted immediately and the soldiers were put on national alert, taking turns guarding the perimeter of Fort Benning.

Doyel is a member of the Iowa National Guard unit at the Carroll Armory. The unit was called to active duty in December 2003 for a 15-month federal deployment. The Carroll guardsmen are part of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 168th Infantry and are presently serving overseas in Afghanistan under "Operation Enduring Freedom." The battalion's stated mission is to conduct "close combat with enemy forces and provide security of key terrain, facilities and installations." Jacob was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge September 22, 2004, for actions against enemy forces in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 5 and the war on terror.
The Combat Infantry Badge is awarded to infantry personnel who have satisfactorily performed duty while assigned as a member of an infantry unit during any period subsequent to December 6, 1941, when the unit was engaged in active ground combat.
