Manning Monitor article - 1945

Two Years Overseas, Albert Hill Returns
Albert Hill, son of Ferdinand Hill of near Manning, stepped into the office Tuesday to have his name removed from the list of names receiving The Monitor, explaining that his three-year hitch was ended and he's happy to be home.

Of the three years in uniform, Albert spent two years in the South Pacific theatre. He participated in the invasions of Okinawa and Leyte in the Philippines. Prior to being sent into action he was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands.
Although escaping any wounds or injuries, he confessed, "There were plenty of close shaves."
