Funeral Mass for Herbert J. Sextro of Omaha, Nebraska was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2003 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Omaha. Interment was at the Calvary Mausoleum in Omaha with the American Legion Post No. 374 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8334, both of Millard, Nebraska providing military honors.

Herbert J., son of John and Clara (Lechtenberg) Sextro, was born February 14, 1925, at Butte, Nebraska. The family moved to Manning, Iowa when he was young and he attended Sacred Heart School in Templeton and Ewoldt Township rural school No. 1.

Mr. Sextro served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He had various jobs in the Carroll County area. He moved to Omaha in the 1950's. He was a meat cutter at Stoysich House of Sausage in Omaha, Safeway and other businesses. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Miller on August 3, 1991, at St. Margaret Mary Church in Omaha. Herbert was an avid bowler and golfer and raised roses.

Herbert, 78, formerly of the Manning and Templeton areas, died Wednesday, August 27, at Omaha, following a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Edna Sextro and Maxine Meier.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette, of Omaha; a stepson Michael Miller and his wife, Karen of Coon Rapids; a stepdaughter, Susan Leonard, and her husband, Clyde, of Des Moines; a step granddaughter, Heidi Miller, of Coon Rapids; a step grandson, Jason Miller of Coon Rapids; four sisters: Helen Lampe and her husband Joe of Carroll, Marie Sextro of Carroll, Dorothy Masching of Carroll, and Ruth Vanderheiden of Carroll; four brothers: Leo Sextro of Manning, Edward Sextro of Manning, Leonard Sextro and his wife Dolores of Manning and Norbert Sextro and his wife Dora of Surprise, Arizona; and a brother-in-law, Warren Meier, and his wife, Rosie of Omaha.
