The family lived it Manning when Gaylord was born, moving to California when Gaylord was five. They originally lived in San Leandro, where Ray was a barber and Edna worked for a department store.

Their son attended school in San Leandro, and later college in San Francisco. In college Gaylord participated in the ROTC program and on graduation in 1959 was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force.

He was called to active duty in June, 1959. Prior to being assigned to duty in Viet Nam, he had been, flying in B-52 bombers for the Strategic Air Command, serving as a bombardier and as a navigator. A military funeral, with burial in a national cemetery, is being planned. The remains will be flown to .......................................
