Gaillard is the son of Earl Charles Frank and Matilda W. (Borkowski) Frank.
He grew up on a farm Southwest of Manning; two miles West and a mile and half South.
Matilda grew up on a farm seven miles South of Manning and a half mile West. She attended Manning High School and graduated in 1931.
Earl grew up on a farm West of Irwin, Iowa and his dad bought the farm Southwest of Manning where Gaillard grew up.

Gaillard graduated from Manning High School in 1949.
He served with the U. S. Marines during the Korean War.
Gail was in the service from February 1952 until February of 1954 and served overseas, as well.

He received the Korean Service medal and the National Defense ribbon. When he went overseas he crossed over on a troop ship and he recalls getting sea sick coming back. "Had some rough ocean on the way back." Gaillard is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1400 member number 6012074.


In memory of Gaillard Frank

Gaillard Frank of San Bernardino, California, died January 18, 2014, in Redlands. His cremated remains will be interred during a memorial service at the Riverside National Cemetery on April 14, 2014.
Gaillard was born in Manning, Iowa, on February 23, 1931, the son of Earl Charles and Matilda "Tillie" W. (Borkowski) Frank. He attended Iowa No. 7 country school through the eighth grade, then attended Manning High School, where he graduated in 1949. Over the years he attended many class reunions in Manning and enjoyed seeing his old classmates and friends once again.
Gaillard served with the U.S. Marine Corps from February 1952 until February of 1954, during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 14000. Gaillard received the Korean Service medal and the National Defense ribbon.

He worked for the railroad for a while as a cook, the FBI in Washington DC as a mail clerk, but mainly for the National Weather Service for over 32 years. While working for the NWS he lived in various locations like Kansas City, Missouri; Chula Vista, California; Pomona, California; Wake Island Pacific; Fresno, California; Amarillo, Texas; Redwood City, California; Great Falls, Montana; and Las Vegas, Nevada.
He retired around 2004 and moved back to Great Falls for a while, then down to Sacramento, California, to be near his daughter, Gerrie. He later moved to Highland, California, to be near his other two daughters, Holly and Linda, then moved to San Bernardino, California. While on Wake Island he would fly into and out of Honolulu, Hawaii, to be with his family.

Gaillard was preceded in death by his little sister, Barbara who died at the age of 2, his parents, brother Charles Frank of Devils Lake, North Dakota, and sister Loyce Mackey of Florida. He is survived by his son Gaylynn Frank of New Mexico, and daughters, Linda, Holly, and Gerrie; a sister, Kay Frank of Minnesota and brother Ron Frank of Indiana.
