Floyd Irlbeck

Floyd Irlbeck, 73, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Floyd was born on July 1, 1940, to Anselm Theodore "A.T." and Wilhelmina "Minnie (Steffes) Irlbeck in Auburn, Iowa. He graduated from Manning High School in Manning, in 1958. He then went into the United States Air Force for five years with four years stationed in Europe. After the military, he went on to the University of Nebraska of Omaha where he received his bachelor's degree in accounting.

On July 20, 1963, he married Carol Miller. They made their home in Omaha, Nebraska.

Floyd began his career at Mutual of Omaha, he went on to work at Control Data, Omaha, Omaha National Bank, First Wyoming Bank Corporation in Wyoming, and Gateway Financial in Kansas City.

He was very involved in the American Legion Post 370 in Overland Park, Kansas. He was the commander at this post and also on the Honor Guard. This post is the largest American Legion Post in the state of Kansas with 1,800 members.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and watching Nebraska Huskers Football, Chief's Football, KU Basketball and Royals baseball.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Carol Irlbeck; two daughters, Renee (Ron) Haines and Jennifer Irlbeck; one son, Mark Irlbeck; two brothers, Merlyn Irlbeck (Beverly) and Ron Irlbeck (Catherine); three sisters, Pat Loats (Kenneth), Elaine Dammann and Joyce Nelson; four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday May 6, 2014, at the Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Overland Park, Kansas, 66204. The American Legion Post 370 performed a 21-gun salute. Floyd's brother, Merlyn Irlbeck, was an honorary guard with them. There was a celebration of life following the service at American Legion Post 370.
