Emil C. Wiese, 84, of Arcadia died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 Thursday at the United Church of Westside with burial at the Westside Cemetery. Pastor Virginia Stiles will officiate.
Visitation will be after 3 Wednesday at the Twit Funeral Home in Carroll with a prayer service at 7 Wednesday. The casket will be taken to the United Church in Westside for visitation at 9:30 prior to the funeral services. Pallbearers will be Paul Schrad, Tony Vogl, Phil Collison, Bob Nielsen, Ben Wessel, and Darrel Wiese. Organist is Janine Kock.
Mr. Wiese was born January 21, 1919, at Hayes Township in Crawford County, son of Detlef and Alma (Kruetzfeldt) Wiese.
He was married September 19, 1946, to Ruthanna Jessen in Des Moines by Rev. Orr.
Military honors will be provided by the Ehlers-Gerken Post No. 694 of the Arcadia American Legion.
Mr. Wiese attended Vail country schools, and then had a lengthy stint in the Army during World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945 in Fedala Casablanca; Tunisia, Sicily; Naples, Rome; southern France and Germany. He was awarded seven Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.
He worked for the railroad for two years and as a farmer for the Collison brothers for 32 years. After his retirement he worked part-time for Westside Popcorn and also saw sharpening at his home.
Mr. Wiese is survived by two sons, David and his wife, Karen, of Arcadia, and Paul and his wife, Pam, of Arcadia; two brothers, Wilmer Wiese and Clarence Wiese, both of Manilla; a sister, Ilia Crampton of Denison; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruthanna Wiese (1997); brothers, Leslie, George, Raymond, Elmer, Alvin, Leonard, and Donald Wiese; sisters, Adeliade Schrum, Viole Dozark, and (missing information).
